File Extension Bak

.BAK is a file extension that is used to refer to BacKup files. A backup file is a copy of the original file, but with a different file extension (in this case it is .BAK). To restore the original file, edit or rename the file name and remove the .bak part.

What programs create files with extension BAK?
Many programs automatically produce files with the extension BAK. These programs are creating backup copies of already existing files by using this BAK mechanism. MS Windows itself creates BAK Files for some INI (initialization) files, automatically.

I really do love FileCure because it's so easy to use - you don't have to be some kind of computer guru to get just what you need!

Plug and play? Not even close. I spent a lot of time trying to get my new, so-called 'plug and play' scanner to work. I was about ready to take it back. ParetoLogic FileCure got it working and saved me a needless trip (and gas!!) back to the store.

I have to admit I'm no computer geek. When something goes wrong, I usually have to call someone to fix it and it costs me a lot of money. When my printer wouldn't work, a friend of mine suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure a try. I figured it was worth a shot because I was going to have to pay for a geek anyway. I was so happy when it worked... and worked properly!

I figured the graphics card my grandson gave me was broken when I couldn't get it work on my computer. It turns out that I just didn't have the right driver. ParetoLogic FileCure got it workin.

Hello FileCure folks:

I can't thank you enough for this great product. I just bought a new Vista machine and had been having all kinds of problems. First it was my screen and once I got that fixed it was the printer . Finally, my son suggested I try your product. It worked great and continues to keep my computer working. Thanks you.

Reggie E., N. Dakota

I hate paying a lot of money for anything. That's why I buy mostly used computer equipment. Last week I thought I got taken when I bought a scanner. It just would not work. ParetoLogic Driver Cure got it working. With the updates, it makes sure my stuff will keep working and that I don't have to pay more money.

I work at a school so my mom thinks I am some kind of computer whiz. I have wasted so much time trying to get her stuff to work. Our IT guy suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure. It has been a godsend and has saved me a lot of wasted hours. My mom and I can't thank you enough.

My wife bought me a new Vista system, and ever since I have had problems with some of my hardware. I saw FileCure, and decided to give it a shot. Ever since, the Vista and my hardware have been working great. Thanks!

Nick Shultz, Canberra, Australia

I upgraded my system to Vista, and my printer started to act funny. No error messages, but it just wasn't working quite right. I read that drivers could sometimes be the problem. I looked online and saw FileCure. After downloading FileCure, my printer works great. You guys rock!

The original text editor software (DOS-based WordStar) created and popularized the BAK file extension type. A backup copy was automatically saved when you saved a file in WordStar, but with the .BAK extension.

EditPlus is another popular text editor software tool that automatically produces BAK files. Computer system users themselves can produce files with the extension BAK as a way to denote that they are backups of other files.

Firefox is a browser that generates a file called bookmarks.bak with the BAK file extension type. This is intended to be a backup of the original Firefox bookmarks made by the user. In case something happens to the primary bookmarks file, the backup file can be renamed and used as the primary bookmark contents file.

More Info Regarding File Extension Bak

Where are the BAK files placed?
BAK files are usually placed in the same folder or directory, where the original files are present. Also, in many cases, BAK files are copied to another destination on the same or different computer system, to enable the safekeeping of original data files.

File extension "BAK" can also refer to the following file types:
Database backup files from FoxPro, Dbase, Clipper, etc
Index file backups
Windows system file backups
Custom application program backup files

How to open file with extension BAK:
Files with a BAK extension cannot and need not be opened directly. The appropriate program that created that BAK file needs to be used to open the BAK file. You will not open the BAK file directly. This option must be available in the particular software application program that generated the BAK file in the first place.

If you want to look at what a BAK file looks like including byte code data and everything, you can also right click on any BAK file, from within the Windows Explorer, look for an option that reads "Open With…" and then choose any appropriate software application program in your system.

If you get any error when trying to open files with extension BAK what to do?
If you get any error message in a dialog box when you do a mouse double click on a file with extension BAK, then the file association for .bak in the Windows system may have become corrupted in the computer. To solve this problem in Windows OS, follow these instructions:

1. Open Windows Explorer (explorer.exe).
2. Go to the top Tools menu and click Folder Options option.
3. Navigate to the "File Types" tab.
4. Scroll down in the "Registered file types:" listing until you arrive at BAK entry.
5. Below the top panel, there is an option that reads like this: Opens With.... By clicking on the "Change…" button, you can choose a different application program installation on your system which you feel need to be used for opening files with BAK extension. Then click OK two times to return to the main window of Windows Explorer.

Finding problems with opening files with the BAK file extension?
If you are still not able to open files with the BAK file extension, it is possible that, your Windows system registry file has become much corrupted. This can generally occur when you have used your system for a long time, and installed and uninstalled a lot of software applications during this period of time. You may want to get using any good "registry cleaner" software which has the option to fix all known file extension problems, including problems with file extension BAK. This is because, all file extension related problems are rooted in the Windows registry and a good and thorough registry fixing software will be able to fix file extension BAK problems.
